Your candidate for St Mary's
I moved to Shoreham in 2010 and having lived in St Mary’s ward in Gordon Road I understand its needs well. I work as a marketing consultant and have two young children, one in local nursery and one in a local primary school. I have already been active on behalf of residents in the area creating a 3,000-strong petition and organising a rally to halt the close of the local Post Office in Buckingham Road. In addition, I am a founder of Future Adur Schools Team (FAST) - a protest group that represents parents & guardians, crunches school data to urge ADC & WSCC to plan for and make provision for long-term primary and secondary school places. I wish to be a councillor to join and support other Labour councillors, acting as a powerful force against the lethargic Conservative councillors.
I (and all other Labour candidates) wish to see transparency at council, that decisions taken are done so democratically, backed up by facts and that the council is held accountable to you the public. I want to help those that feel they do not have a voice, cannot comprehend or manage systems/process or are disabled/impaired.
Labour councillors offer fresh ideas on housing, open spaces and community needs. Our transparent and energetic policies are aimed at reducing child poverty, avoiding homelessness, eliminating avoidable deaths of the elderly (Adur is a national high spot) and planning infrastructure for the next generation.
I wish to challenge head on ADC’s majority voting past and current policy on planning for housing, green spaces, the environment (particularly air quality) and council housing. I would like to see a more holistic approach to housing developments by properly researching, identifying and acting upon arising infrastructure needs, as well as upholding promises on affordable housing percentages. I also want to (with my Labour colleagues) push back on national government to bring more pressure to bear and release funds for the building of more council dwellings, availability of social/social rent properties, and look into Community Land Trusts.
Vote Catherine Arnold for St Mary’s on 3rd May - For The Many Not The Few!
