Lee Cowen

I’m standing again in Mash Barn to continue the work I’ve been doing since the by-election back in October. This will allow me 4 years to make a real difference.

In my short time, we’ve had some successes.

  • We got the proposed 5% councillor allowance increase down to 1%
  • We supported the retention of the council tax relief scheme for low income residents.

I spoke at the Adur Local Plan adoption meeting against including the New Monks Farm site and asked for a deferment until the necessary infrastructure was in place. This was voted down by the Tories and they passed the local plan. Now we await the New Monks Farm planning application.

We need to bring back decision making to include the local community because they feel so powerless right now. With planning applications springing up all over Adur they have to be sensitive to the needs of local people. We need real affordable housing in line with median incomes in Adur, we need diverse employment opportunities and we need to be sensitive to our environment. New developments have to be sustainable and without putting immense pressure on our education, road and health services.

Labour councillors offer fresh ideas on housing, open spaces and community needs. Our energetic policies are aimed at reducing child poverty, homelessness, improving air quality and eliminating avoidable deaths of the elderly (Adur is a national high spot).

Vote Labour, Vote for the many, not for the few, Vote Lee Cowen on 3rd May
