Fighting so that local voices are heard
I’m standing in Marine ward to fight for a strong Labour voice on our District Council. With Conservative cuts seeing more people pushed into poverty we need a change. I will listen to the concerns of all residents and I will stand up for the many not the few.
I have been in labour and union activity for over 20 years, and currently work with parents, teachers and community groups to ensure schools have adequate funding, particularly for the most vulnerable and those with special educational needs. I will fight to protect our local schools from the £1.3 million cuts they are facing. I have experience of working to ensure local voices are heard at all levels of government.
Shoreham is a great place to live and work; we need to invest and protect it for future generations. If elected I will:
- work for a proper solution for the homeless in our community – pushing for housing which is truly affordable and with secure tenancies – putting people before profit.
- seek to improve our local public transport – particularly on the beach – cleaner more environmentally friendly services will mean fewer car journeys and improve the quality of our air.
- campaign to improve local services such as a GPs practice on the beach.
- work with conservation groups and community organisations to protect the unique beach environment ensuring Shoreham Beach remains a great place for residents and visitors alike.
As a local resident I believe the current Conservative controlled council has become complacent, we need fresh ideas and a strong united Labour group to ensure that decisions are made in an open and democratic manner, to ensure the council is accountable to you as the local residents.
