I moved to Worthing at the age of 15, attended school locally and then Solent University, where I graduated in Fine Art Valuation. I ran my own business for a number of years and more recently worked for Brighton and Hove Bus Company where I became senior rep for the GMB Union, representing members at numerous disciplinary meetings, wage negotiations and grievance meetings. So I am well used to ''fighting my corner''.
I have lived in Selden ward for 20 years so I know the problems local people have to deal with on a day-to-day basis. There was a magnificent result in the recent council by-election in Marine Ward where Beccy Cooper won for Labour. At last we are able to call to account the Tory majority.
In Selden ward, with your help, we can ensure more Labour representation of local people. Labour only lost here by 28 votes at the last election so every vote counts. With an active opposition we will have the ability to influence policy. In particular my priorities include:
- Making sure all new developments contain at least 30% affordable housing. - Bringing vacant council owned sites back into use for housing.
- Achieving a Worthing Living Rent of no more than a third of local average earnings.
- Making sure council employees and council contractor employees are paid at least the Living Wage and are not forced to accept Zero Hour contracts.
- Protecting the environment and winning local support for SERA's campaign for a new Clean Air Act for the 21st Century.
