Councillor Richard Aulton
Parish Councillor for Cokeham
Richard Aulton has lived in Lancing for more than 12 years and is a member of Sompting Parish Council. Before retiring he was a staff member and union health and safety representative at the Department for Work and Pensions.
He opposed the New Monks Farm development. He believes the current developments are excessive, do not provide adequate provision for local people, and do not respond to the climate emergency.
He is on the committee of the Harriet Johnson Centre which provides facilities for the community. The parish council often works across party political lines to achieve positive outcomes for the community; most recently on the Malthouse Meadow rewilding project, the resurfacing of the centre’s car park and the establishment of a sensory garden at the centre. It has donated funds and space to the Lancing Food Bank which addresses some of the needs of the 20% of Adur residents facing financial hardship. He hopes local councils will heed public opinion by voting to retain all Children and Family Centres and encourage wider use of these centres.
