The Rev Pat Alden has been a Labour party member for more than 50 years and attended many Labour party conferences with her late husband, former local councillor and Labour group leader Les Alden.

She says: “I have a background in education and have served as a school governor for over 30 years. I taught for 40 years in London and I am currently vice chair of governors at Sir Robert Woodard Academy, Lancing, where a number of our young people attend from Shoreham.

“I also serve as assistant curate to the United Benefice of St Nicolas Old Shoreham, St Julian and St Giles, Kingston Buci .

“My political agenda is one that takes environmental issues very seriously and sees the impact of climate change on our community.

“I am a supporter of social housing and feel that the council needs to prioritise both social and affordable housing when considering new developments.”

“I am also concerned about the increase in population in our town and the impact it is having on our infrastructure of schools, health and social care. I welcome new development so long as it takes account of these issues and is, of course energy efficient and sustainable.

“Another issue that concerns me is the support of vulnerable families as well as refugees. Our Foodbanks are stretched and the local authority should do all to help in the voluntary sector.”
