Respected Adur councillor Nigel Jenner passed away earlier this month and his funeral takes place this week.
Nigel was elected in May 2024, to serve alongside Councillor Emma Evans as the two councillors for Buckingham Ward on Adur District Council.
Although Nigel was suffering health problems, his death came as a tragic surprise to his family – his sons and daughter, Daniel, Matthew and Sara – to his partner, Kate, and to all who knew him.
Tributes to his work in the council have come from members of all political parties and those of no party. He quickly earned respect as a measured, well-informed, and hardworking councillor, as well as a kind human being.
A lifelong public servant, Nigel spent much of his career working in council youth services in Brighton and Hove but also worked with Brighton and Hove Albion, Lewes Football Club, Band of Brothers – a mentoring project for young men – and for Sussex Pathways at HMP Lewes mentoring people before and after release to the community.
Nigel’s funeral will take place on the 29th of April. His family has asked that those who wish to make a donation in his memory do so to the Ropetackle, Shoreham or The Brighton Youth Centre. Details are here.
Buckingham ward residents who need assistance with council issues are advised to contact Buckingham Councillor Emma Evans via emma.evans@adur.gov.uk or Councillor Debs Stainforth, who represents the neighbouring Southlands ward, via debs.stainforth@adur.gov.uk.
Arrangements will be made for a by-election so that residents in Buckingham Ward can elect a successor to represent the ward at Adur Council. This will be finalised following Nigel’s funeral.
