Kate Davis won the Buckingham ward by-election. She won with 609 votes, almost double the number of votes of the second place unsuccessful candidate. She now takes her place in the majority Labour group of Adur District Council.
With a 45% turnout at the polls, this was a clear message that local residents want to see responsible local government. This was a victory for those who value our community and who oppose the voices of division.
Kate said: “I’m deeply honoured to have been elected to represent Buckingham ward. This has been a very personal journey for me, as I step into the role previously held by my partner, the late Nigel Jenner. Nigel served this community with dedication, compassion and integrity, and it means the world to me to be able to carry on the work he cared so deeply about.
“To everyone who supported me during this campaign – I can’t thank you enough. Your belief, encouragement and sheer hard graft made this possible.
“Now, the work begins – and I promise to serve Buckingham ward with the same commitment and care that Nigel did. Thank you for putting your trust in me.”
Adur Labour leader Jeremy Gardner said: “Candidates who peddled misinformation or grandiose undeliverable promises, whether Reform or the Conservatives, were punished at the ballot box. The people of Buckingham recognised that they deserve better.
“Labour in Adur works to support those most in need, to rebuild local services and to ensure sound financial management of the council.”
Reform came second with 311 votes, Conservatives 301, LibDems 153 and Britain First 22.
