Adur and Worthing councils have made sure £4m has gone directly to residents most affected by the cost of living by helping them secure pension credit, reduced water bills, fuel vouchers or energy grants.
This did not come from the council tax, the council brought in money from outside agencies and government initiatives.
- We’ve ensured 5,000 in have reduced water bills by enrolling residents into Southern Water’s social tariff – saving local people £1.1m.
- Free swimming lessons have been offered to 327 families with children in years 5 & 6 entitled to free school meals.
- We have contacted 272 families with children under the age of 4 to raise awareness of the NHS Healthy Start scheme offering support to those on low incomes with milk, fruit, vegetables and infant formula.
- More than 750 residents have been supported with crisis assistance – vouchers, white goods, furniture, food bank referrals.
- Support worth £4.8 million is going to more than 3,000 Adur households struggling to pay their council tax.
We’ve signed up to support the government Connect to Work scheme. We will have advisors helping unemployed people, including those with a health condition or disability, to get into work and to stay in work with tailored support.
